Our office requires referral requests be given at least 48 hours in advance except if it is an emergency appointment. Some insurance companies require that we, the requesting physician, give them 48 hours to approve the referral. Our office recommends that you call the specialist office the day before your appointment to ensure they have received the referral. If you need a referral to a specialist that we have not recommended to you, it is up to you as the patient to check with your insurance company that they are providers under your plan.
